"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me...
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now, I see"

These words wrang in my head
Like the bell
The bell tolls for you, you're dead
Is it heaven or hell
That you are bound for, Grampa?

"...once was lost...
...now I see..."

It took me awhile to understand
Exactly what this meant to me
You made your final stand
And I made mine
Your death helped me and my family
Your life had a negative fine

"...saved a wretch like me...
...how sweet the sound..."

Did you ever change, Grampa?
By description, you were a monster
Did you see the light, Grampa?
I never met you, or heard your voice
But I believe that a man can change
I choose to believe that was your choice

"...a wretch like me..."

I once believed I deserved to die
Not that I wanted to
But savage animals are euthanized
The things I've done
I wish I could reverse the damage
Did you wish the same, old one?

This hit me hard as it mirrored my own experiences. Amazing Grace was played at my Grampa's funeral too... ~T
