there's a shadow of an iris
slowly traipsing across emerald blades
meandering on the window in a come play today way
yet i'm not willing to move from my reverie

this minds eye drifting through a memory
soft sleeping as my fingers drifted through silk
as if i were brushing dreams into his slumber
and maybe i was or just wishing hard enough at the time

resting far enough i could see his lashes as they lay quiet
so feather soft and full of the sound of a deep smile
close enough i could smell late summer in every strand of hair
like sun warmed clover honey and early morning dew drops

the steady rise and fall of a strong yet supple spine
moving in rhythmic life so full of lulling serenity
wondering if he was breathing in every sigh i let slip quietly
falling in endless thank yous from this patched shadow

glancing away to raise eyes to a sky unseen beyond that moment
praying in tongues i never knew for the world to stop turning
to make time dripping like rain against velvet to forget its path
and let me stay in the most delicate peace and engrave it on my life

so the iris may dance across the afternoon
tempting in its shades of beautiful abandon
but there's an infinity of perfection in my memory
and i'm not ready to stop tracing its imprint just yet

Nor should you. We're so quick to try to termite the holes of perfection...even if we have to create the holes...I don't know why it is so hard for the race to just accept...something real...
