As they gather around her they watch,
watch the rise and fall of her chest.
the way she looked,
peaceful and serene,
like a sleeping black-haired angel
waiting to ascend into heaven,
or to come back to us,
to live, to breathe on her own again.
Behind closed eyelids, magnificent green eyes dance merrily.
The rise and fall of her chest slows,
and the doctor's eyes stray.
The eyes stray to somebody,
that somebody inclines their head, moving as to pray.
"She needs her rest, and so do all of you" the doctor says.
Everybody left, to return the next day.
The next day was dark, and bleak,
the air felt heavy, it was hard to breathe.
The boy and girl walked into the hospital
going to visit the green-eyed, black-haired angel.
Doctor said "sorry kids, you cant see her"
A woman came out of the angel's room,
looked at the boy and girl,
tried to talk but cried.
The woman left,
the boy and girl went to see the angel one more time.
The pale, lifeless face,
a face that was once vibrant and healthy,
the stillness of her chest,
the stiffness of her body when hugged,
the bloodless lips.
The boy's eyes went lifeless and black
as he slowly pulled away from reality.
The girl quietly folded her hands as tears slid down her cheeks.
They both have one heart and one mind,
for they both know the angel is gone.
In the waiting room the woman sits,
and as her children pass her
a coldness passes through her and chills her to the bone.
She knows nothing will be right with the herself, the boy, and the girl again.
She had given up on the green-eyed angel,
and had taken her life away,
taken her eldest daughters' life away from her,
left her two daughters and son without a mother,
only a grandmother who despises them,
but aunts and an uncle who love them,
and will cherish them and always remember their mother,
the black-haired green-eyed angel
