Oh beautiful oasis
Enshrined in ice
Such wicked beauty beheld
While fingers of fiery light
From an eternal sun
Shine upon thee,
Cold winds whip and howl
Blurring the distant horizons

Existence seems forbidden
Yet, life abounds beyond
What the mere eye can behold,
Marvels of biology and evolution
Surrounded by unrestrained emptiness
Each carrying out a predetermined destiny
Suffering and triumphs, always
One in the same

Silence overwhelming
The cries of the arctic wolf
Echo, unheeded
While the earth beneath them all
Groans and screams its toil
Always fluid, always embryonic
A life within a life
Never to be conquered
At all times feared
Its mysteries intact

Gawd, that's one of the most beautiful things I've read in a long time.
